San Diego County Child Support Services to Support Learning with Free Backpack Giveaway and Resource FairSource: County of San Diego

As summer wanes and the hustle of back-to-school bustle kicks into high gear, San Diego's County Child Support Services is rolling up its sleeves to ensure students are prepped and ready for their new academic year. They're slated to generously hand out a bounty of backpacks, replete with school supplies, to those who swing by their Super Saturday event come August 10th. For the early birds, it's a first-come-first-serve deal from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Child Support Services Central Office, situated at 3666 Kearny Villa Road, according to the County of San Diego.

The giveaway is part of the larger Child Support Awareness Month celebration, which happens every August. And it's not just about the backpacks. Andrea Cooley, the operations honcho at Child Support Services, was keen to point out that these efforts are a direct response to the pinch many families are feeling with rising living costs. "A new backpack and supplies can boost a child's confidence and self-esteem as they start a new school year," she said, as per the County of San Diego.

Parents have the chance to not only snag school essentials but also to tap into a wealth of services offered by a range of County departments and partner organizations on-site. This includes everything from employment and basic living support, courtesy of Equus Workforce Family Solutions and Jewish Family Service, to legal child support assistance provided by Family Law Facilitators. Pet adoptions, job openings with County Human Resources, emergency preparedness tips, and family services through the County Health and Human Services Agency are also on the docket.

Families looking to flesh out future prospects for their kids can also get the lowdown on education-based initiatives. Child Support Services is set to share the skinny on snagging a high school diploma in partnership with the San Diego County Library. They'll also spotlight the Parents Invest in Education and Youth with Dreams programs, designed to bolster the next generation's academic and career trajectories. These details come as part of a concerted push to give kids the academic leg up they so crucially need.
