The Cincinnati Police Department reported the recovery of a body from the Ohio River yesterday near the Brent Spence Bridge, marking the second such incident in as many days in downtown Cincinnati. According to WLWT, the deceased individual's cause of death is currently being investigated as a homicide, though their identity has yet to be disclosed.
Last Friday evening, another body had been found in the river near the Taylor-Southgate Bridge, approximately a mile away from Saturday's discovery. Traffic was disrupted temporarily as emergency crews, including representatives from the Hamilton County Coroner's Office and Boone County Water Rescue, responded to the scene to recover the body from the river. While it remains unclear whether the two deaths are related or how these individuals met their fates, the proximity of the discoveries has prompted significant concern and ongoing investigations.
"We're not used to having two bodies in a 24-hour period," said Sgt. Donny Shuckmann of Boone County Water Rescue in a statement obtained by FOX19. Shuckmann refrained from speculating on the details of the cases, clarifying that the role of Boone County Water Rescue is strictly recovery, not investigation.
Details regarding the identities and causes of death are still under wraps as authorities continue their work. Sgt. Shuckmann believes that the victims had likely been in the water for about 24 hours before being discovered, which suggests a relatively short time between death and recovery. "The current, the turbulence from the boats, and everything brought them up from the surface," said Shuckmann in his description of the river's conditions to FOX19.
As the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office and local police continue to probe the unsettling incidents, updates are expected to be released once more information becomes available.
