A Florida Highway Patrol trooper and another driver were hospitalized with serious injuries following a collision on I-95 near the Golden Glades Interchange, authorities said. The crash, which occurred early Saturday morning, involved a Toyota Camry that lost control and hydroplaned on the wet roadway, striking the trooper's cruiser that was parked to protect a construction zone. Both individuals were taken to Ryder Trauma Center for treatment.
According to WSVN, the incident happened roughly at 12:05 a.m., and the express lanes had been closed for construction, with the trooper's vehicle strategically positioned for the workers' safety. The cruiser sustained heavy damage, the weather at the time of the accident was wet, a factor that likely contributed to the Camry's loss of control.
CBS News Miami reported that both the highway patrol trooper and the Camry driver sustained serious injuries. The news outlet shared details on the moments before the crash, describing how the trooper had parked his vehicle in the southbound express lanes to shield the area from traffic amid ongoing road work.
The Florida Highway Patrol, continuing with their investigation, has not released further information on the crash as of Sunday afternoon. The identities of those involved have not been publicly disclosed.
