As students in South Florida get ready to go back to school, Broward and Miami-Dade counties are reintroducing some familiar features and adding a few new food options. NBC Miami reports that Broward County Public Schools will continue offering free breakfast and lunch to all students with the Community Eligibility Provision and Universal Free Lunch Program still running for the new school year.
In a move that extends the olive branch of universal access, every child in 180 eligible Broward County Public Schools is ensured a free meal, with the remaining 47 non-CEP schools entering a second pilot year for universal free lunch. While the Broward kids are already hitting the books as of today, their counterparts in Miami-Dade are in for a treat when their school doors open on Thursday.
The Miami Herald adds to this, detailing the logistical must-knows for parents and students as they prepare for the first day back. There's more than just class schedules and bus routes to consider.
Miami-Dade's Department of Food and Nutrition showcased wholesome selections such as whole grain ham & cheese breakfast croissants and white garlic pizzas. These options are offered free of charge. Alongside these additions, students can expect staples like garden salads, sandwiches, and fresh fruit to continue.
