A Lafayette man was arrested after police discovered his three-month-old son's body inside a sealed bucket at the family's home, following a reported domestic incident. The father, Eliasard Moneus, was apprehended early Sunday morning in Indianapolis and faces charges related to the incident. Police initially responded to a call at IU Health Arnett Hospital, where Moneus' wife reported being battered by him and informed officers that her child was missing after the husband had taken him during the altercation, as mentioned on FOX59.
Neighbors described the couple as reclusive, with little interaction reported between them and the surrounding community, the incident has shocked Lafayette locals, while police uncovered evidence of an altercation in the home and a subsequent search, confirmed by WSBT, led to the grim discovery of the deceased child. An autopsy confirmed the baby had been suffocated, and his death was ruled a homicide by the coroner's office.
Separately, a distressing incident involving the death of a baby boy was reported in Georgia, where the child was found lifeless in a sealed bucket in his family home, as detailed by The Mirror. The mother, September De'asia Seright along with two other adults, were present in a room that allegedly was cooled to 61 degrees, emergency services were called and the child was pronounced dead with hypothermia and respiratory failure as suspected causes of death.
Following the investigation, De'asia Seright, Lamisha Diane Seright, and Bennie Antonio Nash were arrested and booked on charges of second-degree murder and cruelty to a child; the local Richmond County Sheriff's Office has not commented publicly on the case, the Cleveland Clinic emphasizes that babies are especially vulnerable to hypothermia due to their greater surface area relative to weight, which can result in heat being rapidly lost and immediate medical attention being a necessity if hypothermia is suspected.
