Swedish Retail Giant IKEA Expands Bay Area Footprint with New Specialized Colma LocationSource: Google Street View

IKEA, the Swedish home furnishings behemoth, has announced the opening of a new “Plan & Order Point with Pick-up” store in Colma, marking its latest move to expand its presence in the Bay Area. According to KRON4, this new specialized facility is slated to open this fall at 35 Colma Blvd. Despite the smaller footprint of 2,340 square feet, the new outlet aims to bolster the shopping experience the larger San Francisco location provides.

Known for its cavernous warehouses filled with flat-pack furniture, the Colma store strays from the traditional IKEA model. The outlet will focus on personalized consultation for home projects, including kitchens, bedrooms, and living rooms. “Due to the limited space in our Plan and Order points, there are no items to purchase and take home on the day”, IKEA elaborated, as per KRON4. Shoppers should note, however, that items can't be purchased for immediate takeaway nor are returns or exchanges available at this location, neither is the often sought-after IKEA food court.

Arda Akalin, the market manager of Value Added Participation Share at IKEA U.S., highlighted the company’s intent to provide greater convenience to Colma residents and the greater San Francisco Metro area. "By bringing IKEA closer to homes, we’re making it more convenient than ever for residents of Colma and the San Francisco Metro area to access the brand they know and love — without the need for a long drive,” Akalin said, as cited by the San Francisco Chronicle.
