According to KENS 5, the incident occurred around the area of Josephine Street, causing significant traffic delays that spanned back to Sunset Road for several hours following the shooting.
The young victim, found with a wound below his waist, reported that an assailant in another vehicle had opened fire on him without provocation. The police were called after the victim managed to exit at Josephine Street, where they discovered him inside his vehicle. Despite the violent nature of this encounter, authorities do not suspect that road rage was at play, according to a statement obtained by KENS 5.
In the wake of the shooting, a portion of the highway was temporarily shut down as detectives canvassed the scene. The disruption to the flow of morning commuters was palpable, but lanes have since reopened, as noted by News 4 San Antonio. The teenage driver was transported to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition.
As the investigation presses on, the shooter remains at large with no clear motive in sight. The urgency to apprehend the individual responsible for the highway ambush hangs over the city, with authorities asking anyone with information to come forward.
