Three individuals sustained gunshot wounds late Thursday night during an outdoor gathering on Chicago's South Side, in an episode of violence that cut through the calm of Greater Grand Crossing. The shooting occurred in the 500 block of West Winneconna Parkway, not far from a South Side park, around 10:10 p.m. where an argument precipitated the discharge of a firearm, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
In the heat of the altercation, reportedly a gunman, yet to be apprehended, manifested and unleashed a volley of bullets, injuring two men and a woman. Standing outside during the incident, the trio was engaged in what was meant to be a placid nighttime assembly. A 31-year-old woman, grappling with injuries to her shoulder and leg, was in fair condition while a 40-year-old man, also in stable condition, was nursing wrist wounds at the University of Chicago Medical Center, as detailed in statements obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times. The other male victim, aged 34, faced the brunt of his injuries in the abdomen and was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical in Oak Lawn, equally sharing a fair condition status with his fellow victims.
The authorities have been scant on details revolving around the identification of the assailant, apart from noting the escape was made in a black SUV. There has been a development in the case with Area One detectives questioning a person of interest, although no arrests have been made thus far, according to CBS News Chicago.
