A collision between a Brightline train and a car has resulted in the temporary closure of Torpey Road in St. Lucie County. According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, the train was traveling southbound when it struck the stationary vehicle on the tracks. The incident occurred today, with the Sheriff's Office reporting the event on Facebook.
The sheriff's update, echoing through Facebook, stated that "Torpey Rd is currently closed at North Old Dixi Hwy due to a disabled vehicle being struck by a Brightline train traveling southbound." Moving with the haste enforced by the urgency of the situation, no injuries were fortunately reported. In the aftermath of such events, roads often reclaim their stillness, presently evident as this one awaited the reopening.
Further details were provided by WPTV News Channel 5 West Palm, which shared that the collision did not result in any injuries. Sheriff Keith Pearson used this incident to remind drivers "to stay alert when crossing railroad tracks and obey all warning signs and signals."
As the roadway stands closed, it highlights the fragility of our routines, disrupted by the unforeseen clash of steel tracks and idle wheels.
