Two individuals were injured in a shooting incident Wednesday night on North DuSable Lake Shore Drive. A 19-year-old man suffered a critical head wound, while a 21-year-old woman was shot in the left calf. Reports state that the shooting took place shortly after 9:15 p.m., as the victims were traveling north in a vehicle, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The Chicago Police Department indicated that the pair were targeted by someone in a light-colored sedan that pulled up alongside their SUV, discharged a firearm, and then swiftly fled the scene. The male victim was promptly taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, in hopes of stabilizing the grievous harm inflicted, as detailed by the Chicago Tribune. The female victim, also treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, was reported to be in fair condition after the event.
Following the incident, northbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive were shut down near the curve just north of Chicago Avenue, creating a heavy police presence in the area. The road closure was confirmed by NBC Chicago in a report posted after the incident.
Investigating detectives have yet to arrest anyone in connection with the shooting, and information about potential suspects remains scant, as per NBC Chicago.
