Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a shooting in Southeast D.C. that led to a man's death last December, marking a grim resolution to a case that remained unsolved for months. The Metropolitan Police Department announced that on August 16, 2024, they apprehended 17-year-olds Rayon Davis Jr. and Quintin Reed. Both suspects, hailing from Southeast, were charged as adults with First Degree Murder While Armed- Felony Murder, as described in a report by MPD.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on the evening of December 20, 2023. Officers from MPD's Seventh District were dispatched shortly before 9:00 p.m. to the 2900 block of Knox Place, Southeast, after the report of a shooting. They found Dwayne Barbour, 39, with critical gunshot injuries, and despite being rushed to a local hospital, he succumbed to his injuries 11 days later, on the last day of 2023.

The investigation into Barbour's death continued unrelentingly. With the assistance of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, the breakthrough finally came on Friday, August 16, 2024, when detectives successfully located and apprehended the teenage suspects. The charges come per DC Superior Court arrest warrants.

MPD has expressed gratitude for the help of the Task Force in tracking down Rayon Davis, putting an end to a manhunt that lasted several months since the fatal event. The community is left grappling with the complex narrative of youth entangled in violence and the ceaseless endeavor to secure justice in the throes of tragedy. The family of Dwayne Barbour, who found himself at the receiving end of a violence that his community is all too familiar with, must now navigate the legal process as they continue to mourn.
