Heading into the Labor Day weekend, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is warning travelers to expect delays on several highways throughout the state. To navigate a traditionally busy time on the roads, UDOT has laid out specific time frames where the congestion is expected to be heaviest. According to their recent advisory, drivers should be particularly wary of travel times on Friday, August 30 when heading northbound on I-15 in Davis County, which may see additional delays for up to 10 minutes between 3-6 p.m.

Not to be outdone by its northbound counterpart, southbound I-15 in Salt Lake County, and southbound I-15 in the Nephi area, are forecasting their significant congestion. Motorists in Salt Lake County could face up to 15 minutes of additional traffic from 3-6 p.m., whereas those near Nephi might endure up to 20 minutes of delays stretching from 3-8 p.m. According to UDOT, these travel advisements, allow drivers to better plan their journeys around these peak times.

Looking ahead to the following Monday, September 2, the focus shifts to northbound I-15 in the Nephi area again and to westbound US-6. Those returning from their weekend escapades can anticipate up to 10 minutes of additional travel time on I-15 from 2-6 p.m. Westbound US-6 travelers might get caught in up to 30 minutes of traffic delays between 1-7 p.m., suggesting an earlier or later departure could be beneficial. While UDOT will halt most construction projects to open up lanes during holiday traffic, some restrictions will remain to safeguard work zones.

In specific regard to ongoing construction, travelers are being told to keep an eye out for two particular areas, SR-201 at 3200 West and Bangerter Highway. SR-201 will be experiencing traffic directed up and down exit ramps which have in place lane restrictions that will continue to direct traffic due to crews replacing the bridge deck. Bangerter Highway's improvement efforts will take a breather come Friday at noon, though current lane restrictions due to the construction of new interchanges will remain, an arrangement looking to ensure the safety of the workers' return post-holiday.
