A 19-year-old Washington D.C. man has been handed a 10-year prison sentence for using Facebook Marketplace as bait to commit armed robberies. Isaiah Green, the convicted individual, pled guilty earlier this year to two counts of armed robbery and will also undergo five years of supervised release post-incarceration, as ordered by Superior Court Judge Lynn Leibovitz, according to a recent announcement by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves, as per the U.S. Department of Justice.

The incidents for which Green was sentenced occurred on August 19 and December 3, 2023. The first incident involved a victim, who was responding to an advertisement for a Stihl brand seen on Facebook Marketplace. Upon arriving at the arranged location, the victim was accosted by Green and his accomplice, who then robbed him at gunpoint, taking his personal belongings and checks totaling $1,500. Similarly, a second victim was lured under the pretense of purchasing a Hilti Laser on December 3, which ended in Green and two other assailants robbing him and his wife at gunpoint and escaping with their valuables, including an iPhone 13.

Meticulous police work by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and cooperation with the Prince George’s County Police led to Green’s identification. Investigators were able to trace the connection between the phone found at Green's residence and the Facebook account used in the robbery. Upon executing a search warrant, police discovered items linking Green to the crimes, including one of the victim's wallets and the stolen Hilti laser. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Iris McCranie and Elizabeth Van Haasteren were recognized for their roles in thoroughly investigating and prosecuting this case, as pointed out by the U.S. Department of Justice.
