The quiet streets of Carpentersville were disrupted by a somber discovery early Tuesday when the body of a 33-year-old man was found on Main Street hill, just east of Route 31. The man, identified as Matthew Burke from West Dundee, is believed to have died from an accidental fall, as the Kane County Coroner's Office autopsy suggested, according to the Chicago Tribune.
In a statement obtained by the Chicago Tribune, Carpentersville Deputy Police Chief Kevin Stankowitz mentioned that toxicology tests, which are still pending, will further illuminate the circumstances of Burke's death. Although alcohol is not currently believed to have been a factor, the final results will confirm this. The body was initially found by a passerby at about 3:30 a.m., and subsequent police response led to a brief road closure for evidence collection.
Further expressing the sentiments of the local law enforcement, Deputy Chief Stankowitz extended his condolences to the Burke family, a sentiment that serves to remind the community of the gravity behind each police tape and report. "The Carpentersville Police Department also thanked the community for providing information and potential leads that assisted in the investigation," as reported by Country Herald.
