A 24-year-old woman was critically injured after being shot in the head while traveling on the South Side of Chicago on Wednesday night. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. in the vicinity of the 1500 block of East 95th Street.
The victim was inside a vehicle when an unidentified assailant, believed to be in a silver SUV, opened fire. She was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center to receive urgent care, noted to be in critical condition. As per current reports, Area Two detectives are fervently working to investigate the situation, although no arrests have thus far been made.
A black Jeep was seen cordoned off within the bounds of the criminally stained yellow tape as investigators scoured the scene for evidence and witnesses. The shooting happened near a bustling shopping center lined with stores, eateries, and a gas station, places that would have been open and potentially full of witnesses at the time of the shooting.
Additional information from an ABC 7 Chicago report included footage from the scene, highlighting the police presence and investigation efforts under the glare of streetlights and neon signs. Despite this, the authorities have yet to publicly identify a suspect, and the shooter remains at large. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward and aid in bringing swift justice to this violent act.
