
UPDATE: A woman has died at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport after becoming trapped and fatally crushed in a conveyor belt system meant for moving baggage. This incident occurred in a non-public area of the airport's International Terminal.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office has identified the victim as Virginia Christine Vinton, age 57, from Waxhaw, North Carolina. Seen last on camera at around 2:27 a.m. entering an area not meant for public access, Vinton's circumstances leading up to the tragic event remained unclear, with officials investigating how she entered the baggage room, as detailed by the Chicago Sun-Times.
According to a Hoodline report, she was found unresponsive and declared deceased at the site of the accident.
Responders from the Chicago Fire Department arrived at approximately 7:45 a.m., upon receiving the distressing call. Larry Merritt, a department spokesperson, told the Chicago Sun-Times, "She was pinned in machinery." The medical examiner scheduled an autopsy for Friday to ascertain the cause of death.
