An 18-year-old man, identified as Ammon Watson, was shot and killed in Oakland Park, a fatal act of violence that took place in broad daylight, officials report. According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, the shooting occurred shortly before noon on Saturday, near the 2100 block of Northwest 28th Street, as noted by NBC Miami.
Watson had just returned from a trip to a store with his grandmother when he was shot in the driveway of a residence. His grandmother, who had already walked inside the home was spared of witnessing the deadly gunfire. The young man was found inert, on the ground; life slipping away amongst the mundanity of suburban infrastructure. Broward Sheriff's Office homicide detectives have since been tasked with unraveling the threads of Watson's murder, according to Local 10.
When Oakland Park Fire Rescue personnel arrived at the scene, they declared Watson dead, ending the chapter of a life that had only just embraced fatherhood six months prior. The newborn child is now left without a father due to this senseless act of violence. Relatives recounting the tragedy to NBC Miami, lamented the loss of Watson, a young man described by his cousins as a "sweet person."
