In a tragic occurrence to shake the North Salt Lake community, a 10-year-old girl was critically injured after being hit by a car while walking to school. The incident took place on Tuesday morning in a crosswalk, near Center Street and 350 North, as reported by Deputy Chief Mitch Gwilliam of the North Salt Lake Police Department, as obtained by ABC4.com. The collision did not occur within a school zone.
Circumstances surrounding the cruel twist of the event were further detailed when the driver of the vehicle, who remained at the scene, cooperated with authorities investigating the accident. This misfortune comes just one day after another vehicular incident involving a child, a 5-year-old boy grazed by a car in Riverton while chasing a school bus, as reported by FOX13.
After the girl was taken to the hospital and placed in critical condition, residents voiced their unease regarding the safety of the intersection. Deputy Chief Gwilliam acknowledged these concerns and assured that the department would investigate optimal safety measures for the location. “We do have and will continue to look into the best option for the safety of all,” Gwilliam said, as per KUTV.
