An individual, now 18, has been charged for their role in a January 2023 aggravated vehicular hijacking in Chicago. According to Chicago Police Department reports, the male offender was arrested by the Vehicular Hijacking Task Force on September 26, 2024, and he is accused of hijacking a vehicle at gunpoint.
Though the accused was a juvenile at the time of the incident, he faces one felony count for vehicular hijacking with a weapon. The Chicago Police report states the crime occurred on January 1, 2023, when a 40-year-old male was forcefully deprived of his vehicle in the 6800 block of S. Green. The arrest took place over a year later in the 6900 block of S. Racine.
The case will proceed through the juvenile court system, with a detention hearing scheduled at 1100 S. Hamilton on the date of the report's publication. As the offender was a juvenile at the time of the crime, the court's handling of these proceedings will differ from that of an adult criminal case.
Further details about the case are limited at this juncture; the Chicago Police Department has not released additional information following the arrest. The offender remains in custody following his identification by authorities as one the individuals involved in the carjacking incident.
