An 18-year-old Hispanic man was fatally injured in a shooting that took place on the I-5 South on-ramp from Logan Avenue and later died at Paradise Valley Hospital. The incident is currently being investigated as a homicide by local authorities, with the California Highway Patrol initially taking charge due to the location of the occurrence, according to official reports from the City of San Diego.
In the early hours of yesterday, a vehicle quickly arrived at the hospital around 2:10 a.m., its occupants seeking help for the injured man from an officer already on the site for different reasons. Despite immediate CPR attempts, the victim was pronounced dead. It was discovered that the shots likely came from the vicinity of Chicano Park, prompting San Diego Police Homicide Detectives to take over the investigation quite thoroughly to investigate the trajectory of this tragedy.
The identity of the deceased has not been released yet, pending affirmative identification and family notification.
