Early Monday, tragedy struck the Eisenhower Expressway on Chicago's West Side as a 29-year-old man was declared dead at the scene following a car crash. According to Illinois state police, around 2:20 a.m., they were called to the eastbound lanes of I-290, particularly on the ramp to Cicero Avenue, where they discovered Terrance K. Mitchell, who had been ejected from his vehicle. This incident was reported by both the Chicago Sun-Times and NBC Chicago.
Following the initial collision, Mitchell's vehicle continued unabated, crashing into a parked vehicle that was unoccupied, officials said. The details leading up to the crash remain uncertain, but Mitchell, hailing from the Austin neighborhood, was confirmed dead by both state police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. The eastbound lanes of I-290 were subsequently closed, reopening approximately two hours later at around 4:25 a.m.
The disruption caused by the crash led to the closure of the busy expressway for roughly two hours as state troopers and emergency services attended the scene.
