Elmwood Place village is reeling from the aftermath of a multi-vehicle crash that left six people hospitalized, including three children. The collision, involving two vehicles and a school bus, occurred yesterday at the intersection of Township Avenue and Sycamore Street, according to local officials. WCPO reported that although the school bus was empty of students at the time, the three children injured were passengers in one of the other vehicles.
In what appears to be a case of negligent seatbelt use, authorities said the kids, aged between 2 to 7 years, were not wearing seatbelts during the crash. This detail emerges amidst calls for stricter adherence to safety measures in vehicles, especially for the most vulnerable. FOX19 added that the SUV carrying these children initiated the chain-reaction crash that ended with the school bus being struck, folding under the school bus's side.
The Elmwood Place Police Department has indicated that the silver Ford SUV was speeding before it collided with a black Acura and then the bus around 2:15 p.m. There is no belief that Ford's occupants were using seatbelts, and subsequent to the crash, all the occupants, including the children, were taken to Children's Hospital and UC Medical Center for their injuries. WLWT reported the conditions of those in the Acura are expected to be okay, echoing a sense of relief in this unfortunate event.
Officials have not only emphasized the critical nature of this collision but have also sounded the alarm on the importance of car seats and seat belts. After being taken to local hospitals, all six involved are expected to survive their injuries. The driver of the school bus, who suffered minor injuries, also forms part of this narrative.
