
A quiet evening in Chicago's Fernwood neighborhood was disrupted by an attempted carjacking that left an unintended victim wounded by gunfire, according to local authorities. As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, the incident occurred around 7:24 p.m. Sunday when an armed individual attempted to hijack a vehicle occupied by a 58-year-old man in the 700 block of West 107th Street.
During the fraught confrontation, the gunman discharged his weapon, unfortunately striking a 63-year-old man who had been walking nearby the gunfire ensued, and the victim was struck in the groin, subsequently, the assailant fled the scene on foot leaving chaos and alarm in his wake.
First responders provided aid to the wounded bystander, transporting him to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where officials later stated his condition as fair. FOX 32 Chicago corroborated the time and location of the incident, adding that the victim was listed in fair condition following the attack.
