If you want to pay homage to a local military service member, Avondale's Hometown Hero Banner Program is an ideal opportunity. Sponsored by the Avondale Municipal Art Committee, this initiative is dedicated to celebrating residents of Avondale who have served the U.S. Armed Forces—whether they're in active duty, honorably discharged veterans, or those who've made the sacrifice for our country.
Strategically placed along Dysart Road from McDowell to Van Buren, banners bearing the visages of Avondale's selfless servicemen and women will greet drivers; these banners serve as a solemn reminder of the courage taken up in service of the nation, they will be put on display annually in coordination with Veterans Day, with next set to adorn the city in November, immortalizing the faces of neighborhood heroes in the collective memory of commuters for at least a year.
To qualify, nominees must either be currently enlisted in the Armed Forces or veterans who have been honorably discharged. Crucially, they must have either lived in Avondale themselves or have close family members in the city.
The deadline submissions due by October 24; full details on the submission process are available on the official website, where applications can be made and further inquiries directed, Avondale's official channel is open for communication at (623) 333-2787 that too for those who might prefer a more personal touch in the application or inquiry process.
