A Broward County anesthesiologist is facing serious charges after being arrested on Thursday. According to details released by NBC Miami, David Rerko, 61, has been charged with 10 counts of depiction of child sexual conduct and one count of gathering child pornography on a computer. The law enforcement's findings have led to the immediate response from his hospital, with Broward Health Medical Center revoking Rerko's privileges in the wake of his arrest.
Rerko, who was employed at the medical center through a third-party contractor, sparked a firm and swift reaction from the hospital. "We were dismayed to learn that an anesthesiologist provided to our system by a third-party contractor has been arrested," the hospital stated, gathered by NBC Miami. On any of our properties and that he is not permitted, his employer was immediately notified that the physician's privileges were revoked as the investigation continues, pledging full cooperation with the Broward Sheriff's Office.
Further investigation revealed that Rerko allegedly uploaded more than 100 files of child sexual abuse material. This troubling claim comes from an additional report by Local 10, which specifies the nature of the content involved in the 11 felony charges facing the South Florida physician.
While faced with such severe allegations, Rerko will be allowed to bond under specific conditions. He must wear a GPS monitor and has no contact with minors, as reported by NBC Miami. Part of the court order also prohibits him from possessing devices with internet access and requires the surrender of his passport.
