The food landscape in South Florida's Palm Beach County is witnessing notable changes with the closure of BurgerFi in Delray Beach following a tragic crime, and the anticipated opening of H&H Bagels, a big-name New York City bagel shop, in Boca Raton.
According to Boca News Now, the BurgerFi situated at 7959 West Atlantic Avenue has shut down permanently; the site had been marred by a murder-suicide incident in October involving Steven Alembik, a Republican activist. Although the fast-casual burger joint has remained open in other locations this particular one, which struggled to recalibrate after the crime, has ceased operations, leaving patrons to look elsewhere for their burger fix.
On a brighter note, fans of traditional New York City bagels will soon enjoy H&H Bagels in Boca Raton, which the company claims to be a process of kettle-boiled and oven-baked perfection, with plans to replicate their success in this new sunny locale. H&H Bagels has been a New York staple that has managed to work its way into the cultural fabric of the city, making appearances in various shows and films like "Seinfeld" and "You’ve Got Mail", providing a sense of nostalgia along with its baked goods.
As reported by the Palm Beach Post, the Boca Raton H&H Bagels, which will serve the same menu as its northern counterpart, featuring a range of bagels, sandwiches, and spreads, aims to open by the end of September, and there’s already excitement about further expansion with a West Palm Beach location projected for spring 2025.
H&H Bagels is set to bring an authentic New York bagel experience to Boca Raton, as well as local residents longing for the Big Apple's celebrated bagel scene, with counter service and the convenience of delivery and catering, according to Marc Schultz, a partner in the upcoming franchise.
