A routine traffic stop by the City of Carlsbad Police turned into a significant bust on Wednesday, uncovering a duo linked to drug and identity theft allegations. A vehicle with tags expired for over two years was pulled over for a seatbelt violation, leading to the arrest of two suspects, detailed in a statement from the Carlsbad Police Department's Facebook page.
Upon further investigation, the driver, already known to authorities for previous attempts to evade police, was found to be driving on a suspended license. The passenger was no stranger to run-ins with law enforcement either, holding an active warrant for evasion, a rap sheet with vehicle theft and drug offenses, and while currently on probation. The subsequent vehicle search proved fruitful, uncovering six syringes, narcotics, and a smattering of drug paraphernalia, not to mention multiple debit cards, all bearing different names.
The Carlsbad Police acted quickly, contacting victims as they investigated. Their calls revealed that the suspects had stolen personal items from cars and mailboxes, not just discarded wallets. The suspects were arrested and face multiple charges, including possession of stolen property and drug offenses.
