Casa Grande residents and visitors might notice an uptick in sirens and emergency vehicles today, but officials are reminding everyone that there's no cause for alarm. According to an advisory posted by the City of Eloy, a large-scale emergency drill is ongoing until 3 p.m. around the vacant outlet mall on E. Tanger Drive.
The drill, involving multiple agencies, is designed to prepare emergency personnel for an array of potential crises. “Please note, this is only a drill—there is no active emergency,” the city's statement reads. Although the simulation is expected to be contained to the specific area near the outlet mall, the presence of first responders, the simulation of emergency scenarios, and the movement of vehicles could seem unusual to the unacquainted passerby.
City officials are urging the public to stay alert and heed any instructions provided on scene. Traffic signs and directions from officials will guide residents and visitors safely around the drill site. The city reassures that all services will continue as usual during the exercise.
