According to the detailed weather forecast, Chicagoans can expect west winds around 10 mph, gusting as high as 20 mph. As the week progresses, the mercury is set to rise further, reaching the mid-80s by Tuesday and inching towards 87 degrees by Wednesday. The warmth will persist through the week with temperatures enjoying an extended stay in the mid-80s range.
In the evenings, the city will cool down slightly, with lows hovering around the low 60s for the most part. However, starting Thursday night, temperatures during the nighttime are expected to subtly climb, with a forecasted low around 68 degrees. Despite this warming trend, the National Weather Service warns residents to be cautious with outdoor fires and disposal of smoking materials. In a recent update, the NWS outlined a 'Limited Fire Weather Risk' from Tuesday through Thursday due to the persistent warm and dry conditions that have left brush and grass more susceptible to igniting.
The Hazardous Weather Outlook released by the NWS emphasizes that, while no significant hazardous weather is expected, there is an increased potential for brush and grass fire to start in the given conditions. Additionally, no hazardous weather is predicted for the Illinois or Indiana nearshore waters of Lake Michigan for the current timeframe.
Outdoor enthusiasts and commuters may, however, need to carefully watch the skies come Friday. According to a post from the National Weather Service Chicago's X account, remnants of a tropical system could usher in spotty showers, particularly south of the I-80 corridor. This brief interruption in the dry spell may offer some respite, with forecasts suggesting the possibility of this passing wet weather to also take place Friday night.
