On the night of September 16, Chicago Police arrested 31-year-old Rakim Kendall after he allegedly pointed a firearm at officers. The incident occurred in the 7100 block of S. Jeffery Blvd. in the 3rd District, and according to the Chicago Police Department, officers responded to reports of a person with a gun prior to encountering Kendall. Shortly following the confrontation, police discharged their weapons towards the offender, though no parties were injured. Kendall was charged with multiple felony counts, including five counts of Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer.
The arrest took place at approximately 10:50 p.m. near S. Cyril Ave, where Kendall was subsequently taken into custody. A loaded firearm was recovered at the scene. The charges against Kendall also encompass one felony count of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon/Loaded - No FCCA-FOID and one count of Possession of Cannabis/More than 100-500 Grams/1st. These are in addition to the aggravated assault charges, laying the weight of the judicial system on his shoulders as he awaits his preliminary hearing.
Kendall's detention hearing is scheduled for September 18, 2024, at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California.
