
A 54-year-old Chicago resident, Leotis Carter Jr., has been charged in connection with the death of a 29-year-old man following a DUI incident that took place last year. According to Chicago Police Department, Carter faces one felony count each of aggravated DUI resulting in a death, reckless homicide involving a motor vehicle, and aggravated DUI with a previous record of two or more offenses.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred on October 6, 2023, on the 2900 block of S. Lake Shore Dr. The report states that Carter was driving under the influence at approximately 11:50 a.m. when he collided with another vehicle, resulting in in the fatal injury of a passenger. Carter was detained by the Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force in partnership with Major Accident detectives on September 27 at 6:15 p.m. in the 1700 block of S. State St., according to police records.
Following his arrest, Carter has been scheduled for a detention hearing at 2600 S. California on September 28, 2024. As the case moves forward, the Chicago Police Department has not released any additional details regarding the circumstances of the accident or any potential contributing factors beyond the DUI charge.
Carter Jr., of the 8900 block of S. Aberdeen St., remains in custody pending a court decision.
