
The city of Chicago witnessed two fatal shootings in less than two hours early Wednesday morning. When traversing the streets of West Englewood, a 54-year-old man was shot in the chest on the sidewalk in the 6500 block of South Claremont Avenue around 1:05 a.m. According to FOX 32 Chicago, police officials located the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to the University of Chicago Hospital where he was declared deceased. The Cook County medical examiner has yet to release his identity.
In a separate incident that night, a 47-year-old man in the West Garfield Park neighborhood became the victim of a sidewalk shooting, fatally wounded in his head by an assailant who approached him near the 4100 block of West Grenshaw Street. The Chicago Tribune reports that the man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital shortly after midnight, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Suffering gunshot wounds to the chest before 1 a.m., a man in West Englewood was discovered, revealing the raw exposure of humanity to the whims of violence.
As of now, there have been no arrests made in connection with either case. The circumstances surrounding the shootings are not yet clear, and detectives are actively investigating the events that led to these tragic outcomes.
