Early Thursday morning on the Southwest Side of Chicago, residents experienced a surge of violence as two separate home invasions took place, sparking concern and an active police investigation. According to The Chicago Tribune, the first incident occurred on the 6200 block of South Kolin Avenue in West Lawn around 1:25 a.m. In this case, a 56-year-old woman and a man aged 20 were followed into a residence by two armed suspects demanding property. A gun was recovered after a shootout inside the home, though thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The situation escalated within minutes and less than two miles away, the second incident occurred. At approximately 1:40 a.m., a 17-year-old boy was accosted by two armed males as he exited his vehicle on the 3300 block of West 59th Place, as per the Chicago Tribune. The assailants, arriving in a black SUV, forced the teenager into his residence and robbed him of additional property before fleeing the scene. As with the earlier invasion, the robbers remain at large, intensifying the urgency of the Chicago Police Department's investigation into these violent acts.
ABC7 Chicago reports that Area One detectives are on the cases, though no arrests have been made in connection with either home invasion.
