
The 25th District of Chicago has recently experienced a wave of commercial burglaries targeting local places of worship, according to a business alert issued by the Chicago Police Department. The alert details a series of incidents where at least one individual has forcefully gained entry into these establishments. Offenders have pushed in window air conditioning units or used a pry tool to gain entry through the rear door.
The crimes have occurred at various times and locations, including the 5300 block of West Fullerton Ave. on September 6th and 16th, and the 2200 block of North McVicker Ave. on September 10th. Items stolen during these burglaries range from tools and musical equipment to electronics and donation boxes filled with cash. The identified suspect is described in the alert as a male Hispanic, approximately 30-40 years of age, around 5'6, with dark hair worn long. In an incident, he was seen wearing a white t-shirt and long black shorts.
Community members and establishments have been advised to stay vigilant. The alert encourages heightened awareness and recommends reporting any suspicious activity or individuals, especially those loitering near places of worship. Additional advice includes making sure that surveillance systems are functioning correctly to aid in future investigations.
The police urge anyone who witnesses suspicious activity to immediately call 911 and provide as many details as possible.
