The streets of Chicago's 25th (Grand Central) District will see an increased presence of Chicago Police this weekend as officers undertake a DUI Saturation Patrol aimed at cracking down on impaired driving. Announced by the Chicago Police Department, the patrol is scheduled to start on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 6 p.m. and will continue until 2 a.m. the following Saturday.

This enforcement effort is part of a continual push to ensure road safety by detecting signs of impaired driving and emphasizing compliance with traffic laws, especially in regard to speed, alcohol-related offenses, and seatbelt usage, officers outfitted with speed detection equipment will be on the lookout for speeding drivers while patrolling the district, the effort doesn't stop with alcohol, with the patrol also keeping a close eye on vehicles for safety compliance and drivers for proper licensing and the Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit, a tool aimed to speed up the DUI charge process, may also be utilized allowing officers to issue Individual Recognizance Bonds (I-Bonds) at the scene.

The patrol results from a similar initiative in the 8th (Chicago Lawn) District on September 13-14, 2024, have been detailed by the department with zero DUI arrests made but a total of 60 citations issued for other violations, this includes 23 unsafe vehicle violations, two instances of open liquor possessions, and seven seat belt violations among others, only one vehicle was towed and no other arrests were reported during this period as per the police summary.

With the upcoming DUI Saturation Patrol, the Chicago Police Department reiterates its commitment to public safety and the reduction of impaired driving accidents, the Department's intent, to make clear through the patrols that driving under the influence will not be tolerated and they continue a proactive approach to road safety, aiming for a weekend without DUI incidents similar to the recent Chicago Lawn patrol has been expressed in their public communications.
