A stroke of fortune graced a regular lottery player from Illinois when they purchased a winning Lucky Day Lotto ticket worth nearly $1.5 million at a BP gas station in suburban Des Plaines over the weekend.
The lucky numbers 6-27-32-33-40 drawn matched the ticket, paving the way for the eye-opening jackpot, as confirmed by lottery officials and reported by NBC Chicago, the gas station's owner Febin Thomas was overjoyed at the news and even more delighted that the windfall had gone to a local patron, expressing his thrill to NBC Chicago about the win going to a "familiar face."
The BP station, located at 1215 Lee Street, will also benefit from the transaction, receiving a selling bonus of $14,500, a standard one percent of the prize amount according to lottery rules, reported WGN-TV.
Febin Thomas plans to share his good fortune with his employees, some of whom have been with him for over a decade "I have many longtime employees, some have even worked for me for over ten years, and I’d love to share the bonus with them," he told WGN-TV; in the last two years, this station has also sold other high-value scratch-off tickets, this being the latest in their streak of luck.
Throughout the year, nearly 10 million winners of the Lucky Day Lotto tickets have been recorded, generating over $50 million in prize money, with the Illinois-only game hosting twice-daily drawings and tickets available for purchase at retail locations, through the Illinois Lottery’s official website, and on their mobile app, for added convenience and access to potential fortune.
