A woman has been arrested in connection with a traffic collision in El Paso that resulted in the city’s 17th traffic fatality of the year. The El Paso Police Department's Special Traffic Investigators unit responded to a crash on April 14th, which occurred at the intersection of the 5700 block of Trowbridge and the 5800 block of Paisano. Involved were a KIA Forte and an Oldsmobile, one of which ran a red light, leading to the serious collision.
All individuals involved were transported to a local hospital with severe injuries. Following the incident, on April 20th, the victim, Mr. Limon, succumbed to his injuries as per the notification from the Medical Examiner's Office. More than four months after the accident, on August 23rd, authorities arrested Elizabeth Olivia Chagra-Nichols, charging her with Intoxication Manslaughter and Intoxication Assault. The investigation determined she was the one who ran the red light while under the influence. She is now being held at the El Paso County Detention Facility, as detailed by the City of El Paso.
The case against Chagra-Nichols is set to proceed as the court calendars fill with the somber weight of justice in the balance. As she faces the criminal charges, the community grapples with yet another loss, Mr. Limon, a name now etched into the city's memory as a victim of reckless decision-making. The authorities have not released any additional details about the case at this time, and the situation continues to unfold.
