Tragic news emerged from Delray Beach as a pedestrian was struck and fatally wounded by a Brightline train on Monday. According to WPTV News Channel 5 West Palm, the incident occurred at the juncture of Atlantic and Railroad avenues. The Delray Beach Police Department, in a statement, revealed the pedestrian as a 56-year-old man from Palm Beach County who deliberately stepped onto the tracks, leading to the tragic outcome.

The collision led to temporary traffic modifications, as reported by the City of Delray Beach post on X. While SE 1st Ave has since been reopened for vehicle traffic, SE 2nd Street remained closed as of the last update to allow for investigative and recovery efforts.

In accordance to an update by WPBF, Southeast First Avenue was closed following the incident but has now resumed normal traffic flow.

The Brightline railway is connecting Miami to West Palm Beach with future plans to extend to Orlando. Police have not released further details about the individual involved beyond initial identification.
