The race for the new seat on the Fourth District Juvenile Court is underway, as the Judicial Nominating Commission has announced a shortlist of nominees for the position. The vacancy, brought into existence by the Utah Legislature this year, has drawn a mix of private and public sector attorneys into the spotlight, each vying for the appointment.
Amongst those selected are Jared Anderson, proprietor of Anderson Law and a conflict attorney for Utah County, Tyler Berg, who defends parental rights in Utah County, Michael Howard from the Utah Attorney General’s Office, Erik Jacobson of the Moody Brown Law firm, and Ryan Petersen, a senior partner at MacArthur, Heder, and Metler, P.C. According to the Office of the Governor, the public can submit their written thoughts regarding the nominees until the midday deadline of September 15.
Once the comment period comes to a close, the Judicial Nominating Commission will consider the feedback received. It may request additional information or even conduct its investigation into the nominees’ backgrounds. The final names will then be forwarded to Gov. Spencer J. Cox, who has a 30-day window to make his selection.
