A 39-year-old man formerly stationed at MacDill Air Force Base, Jonathan Howard Kuykendall, also known as "Bright Darkness," has been sentenced to over a decade in federal prison for attempting to entice what he believed was a minor to perform sexual acts; U.S. District Judge Charlene Honeywell presiding over the case ordered a 10-year and 1-month incarceration period following Kuykendall's June 26, conviction.
According to a Department of Justice press release, the investigation revealed that in June 2022 Kuykendall began communication with "Ms. Glitter," promptly after which she disclosed she was 14 and on base with her mother, but Kuykendall not deterred began introducing sexual topics, steadily transitioning from casual conversation to openly graphic exchanges, sending her explicit descriptions and images of adults engaged in sexual activities.
His attempt to meet "Ms. Glitter" for what he envisioned to be intimate encounters was foiled on June 24, 2022, when Kuykendall was met instead by undercover federal agents conducting a sting operation as part of Internet Crimes Against Children; trial evidence highlighted the defendant's suspicion as he performed countersurveillance before finally approaching what he believed to be the minor's residence, consuming a handful of male enhancement pills in anticipation.
The arrest was a collaborative effort between Homeland Security Investigations - Tampa, the 6th Security Forces Squadron, and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations Detachment 340, Assistant United States Attorney Karyna Valdes led the prosecution succeeding after Kuykendall was caught in the act.
