
An early morning collision on Interstate 95 in Fort Lauderdale resulted in injuries sustained by a police officer, as per statements from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The crash, which involved a marked Fort Lauderdale Police vehicle, occurred near Sunrise Boulevard and was initially reported at 5:53 a.m., as Local 10 News reported.
With the first responders having arrived at the scene reported by Chopper 6 around 6 a.m., the subsequent examinations of the crash led to the congestion of traffic. The officer, after being sideswiped by another vehicle, suffered a minor injury, informed Lt. Indiana Miranda of the FHP. NBC Miami states that Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue was responsible for transporting the injured officer to Broward Health Medical Center.
Investigations into the exact circumstances of the collision are currently ongoing. Lt. Miranda highlighted that "a supervisor and several members of the Ft. Lauderdale Police Department responded and investigated the crash," as echoed in a statement obtained by Local 10 News. There is no immediate word on the status of the other vehicle involved or any potential repercussions for the driver.
According to NBC Miami, the local police department, who continued probing the details of the incident that morning, led the investigation. Frank Guzman, a spokesman for Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, confirmed that the officer's injuries were non-life-threatening.
