Residents of neighborhoods located south of Broward Boulevard may notice a change in their water's hue as the Peele-Dixie Water Treatment Plant undergoes scheduled maintenance from September 9 to September 17.
According to the City of Fort Lauderdale, while Peele-Dixie is out of commission, locals will temporarily get their water from the Fiveash Water Treatment Plant, which may result in a slight discoloration due to the different treatment processes employed. It's important to note that the water will still meet all primary drinking water standards. Although the visual change might be apparent, city officials assure the public that safety is not to be compromised.
In a statement released on the City of Fort Lauderdale website, assurances have been made that, "Please be assured that the water is safe and meets all primary drinking water standards." The difference in color comes from the contrasting methods used by the two plants—Peele-Dixie uses advanced reverse osmosis while Fiveash uses lime softening.
