In Fort Wayne, Indiana, a federal court handed down a 180-month prison sentence to Brandon O. Sanders, 29, who pled guilty to fentanyl distribution and illegal firearm possession, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. United States District Court Chief Judge Holly A. Brady presided over the sentencing, where Sanders was also slated for four years of supervised release following his incarceration.
Sanders reportedly distributed over 4,000 fentanyl pills across four incidents between August and September 2023. As part of an already convicted past, which includes felony distribution of a controlled substance and a handgun offense, Sanders was prohibited from possessing the firearm found loaded during a raid of his residence, where police also discovered additional fentanyl pills and evidence suggesting drug trafficking activities.
This case was part of a concerted effort under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement and community entities. As reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office, the initiative has been refocused to build community trust, back organizations that work on violence prevention, establish precise enforcement priorities, and diligently measure outcomes since its strategy was intensified on May 26, 2021.
Several agencies worked together on the investigation that led to Sanders' conviction, including the DEA, ATF, the Postal Inspection Service, and the Fort Wayne Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stacey R. Speith led the prosecution.
