Four men in their 20s became the unexpected targets of an overnight shooting in Chicago's Irving Park neighborhood, each sustaining injuries but expected to pull through. The incident took place at around 2:25 a.m. Thursday on the 4200 block of North Knox Avenue according to Chicago Sun-Times. Police detailed that the males were ambushed by gunfire from a dark-colored sedan while stationed on a sidewalk.
Among the victims, a 24-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and groin, initially taken to Community First Hospital, then transferred to the Illinois Masonic Medical Center in stable condition, the Sun-Times reported. Another 25-year-old faced injuries to his buttocks and leg, following a similar path to medical care. The remaining two men, one 20-year-old and another 24, suffered grazes to the arm and neck, respectively and were also transported to Illinois Masonic, ending up in good condition.
As of now, the motives and the perpetrators behind the shooting remain veiled in uncertainty. Area Five detectives are deeply entrenched in the investigatory process, yet no arrests have graced the case so far. The industrial nature of the neighborhood, marked with businesses and a recording studio nearby, leaves room for multiple threads of inquiry; whether any linkage exists between the location and the event has yet to be established. Officers have been combing over every inch of the scene, but answers seem to drift tantalizingly out of grasp.
Meanwhile, outside the bubble of police activity, life in the Irving Park neighborhood staggered forward. Two employees of a local rental car agency described the surrounding area as typically quiet and secure, as recounted in an interview with WGN-TV. "Most of the time, we’re always outside," Nam Duong told the station, asserting the safety of the area. Echoing the sentiment of disbelief, Geo Bedrejo added, "It’s just still shocking that it happened. It’s just a surprise."
he investigation by Area Five detectives continues, and anyone with information is encouraged to come forward.
