Greenwood has stepped up its game with the grand opening of a state-of-the-art sports complex, slated for this Friday, in a bid to become a hub for youth sports tournaments in central Indiana. The $10 million Greenwood Sports Park, covering 40 acres and boasting eight hybrid turf fields, is set to attract baseball and softball tournaments to the region. The sports facility, managed by Greenwood Parks and Recreation, will not be available for general public use, but teams can secure their spot on the fields by reaching out to the city's parks department.
This development places Greenwood firmly on the map of competitive youth sports venues, ready to draw teams and their families into its fold, the sports complex is a much-needed asset for the city. Greenwood's mayor, Mark Myers, appeared to be in high spirits about the upcoming opening, "We want to get in the game,” he stated, "We don't just want to be staying in the game, we want to be on the cutting edge of that game, and the south side doesn't have a nice complex like this, and we need one," this was conveyed in a statement obtained by WTHR.
As the project welcomes its first visitors, the surrounding community looks forward to more than just the sounds of bats and balls. They anticipate a boost in economic activity, driven by the influx of visitors to the sports complex. Meanwhile, local youth will take to the fields, realizing their athletic dreams on the well-maintained turfs of Greenwood Sports Park, this perspective was reinforced by Greenwood Parks and Recreation in their statements to WRTV.
