
In an incident unfolding late on Monday night, Chicago police officers engaged in an armed pursuit with a suspect in the South Shore neighborhood, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The chase began around 10:15 p.m. when officers responded to reports of an individual brandishing a weapon on the 7100 block of South Jeffery Boulevard.
According to authorities, after the officers approached, the gunman pointed their firearm at the officers, and proceeded to flee the scene, prompting at least one officer to discharge their weapon. Despite shots being fired, the gunman was not struck and continued the attempt to evade law enforcement, ABC 7 Chicago detailed the harrowing encounter.
The pursuit culminated with the suspect's arrest, and a recovered gun was taken as evidence. It was confirmed by the police that the suspect sustained minor injuries during the apprehension and was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital. Following standard procedure, the involved officers also underwent a hospital evaluation and were released after treatment.
As is customary in these situations, the officers involved in the chase and gunfire - will be assigned to administrative duties for a minimum of 30 days. This is a part of the routine response to such incidents, allowing for an internal review and assessment of the events that transpired during the altercation.
