A fatal car accident occurred late Monday night in Chicago's West Garfield Park neighborhood, resulting in the death of a 39-year-old driver. The individual was at the wheel of a Buick sedan, traveling at a high rate of speed, when the vehicle veered off the road and collided with a tree in the 4600 block of West Maypole Avenue, according to FOX 32 Chicago.
Emergency services responded to the scene around 11 p.m., and the driver was subsequently transported to Mount Sinai Hospital; where he was pronounced dead. As of the most recent reports, Cook County officials had not disclosed the identity of the deceased, The Chicago Sun-Times noted.
The Chicago Police Department's Major Accidents unit is currently investigating the crash. No other vehicles appear to have been involved, and no additional injuries have been reported linked to this incident.
