The Indianapolis Fire Department, in collaboration with the Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office, is appealing to the public for help to resolve an unsolved arson from 2020. Authorities are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals involved in the arson, as reported by WISH-TV.
An early morning blaze on November 7, 2020, which destroyed a home located on the 1200 block of East 91st Street, Indianapolis, is the focus of this renewed effort. A couple, startled awake by their dogs, narrowly escaped the fire with their pets before the flames consumed the interior of their residence. Despite the damage and a thorough investigation that followed, no suspects have been apprehended, and the case had gone cold, as noted by WISH-TV. The only clue was that the couple had reported recent acts of vandalism to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) right before the fire.
IFD Battalion Chief Rita Reith expressed that advancements in forensic technology might now yield new leads to help solve this case. This sentiment was echoed by Battalion Chief of Fire Investigations Vernon Garard, who said in a statement obtained by WISH-TV, "We are hopeful that someone out there has a piece of information that could be the key to solving this case."
Individuals with knowledge of the incident are encouraged to come forward and contact the Indiana arson tipline at 1-800-382-4628, or via email at [email protected]. According to Indianapolis Fire Department official communication, concerted efforts are being undertaken by the IFD and State Marshal's Office to ensure justice is served for the victims of this devastating event.
