A devastating fire wreaked havoc in Seattle's North Greenlake neighborhood early this morning, displacing residents and causing significant damage to a local condo complex. According to the Seattle Fire Department, firefighters were called to the 8800 block of Nesbit Ave. N., after 911 calls, reported the blaze at approximately 12:51 a.m.

The situation's intensity prompted incident command to quickly request a 2-alarm response, bringing nine fire engines, five ladder trucks, and the elite Rescue One unit to bear. As a result, more than 70 firefighters were on hand to desperately try to control and eventually extinguish the fire. Crews were seen evacuating the building's residents and performing thorough searches to ensure no one was left behind. Their efforts were successful, with the fire under control by 1:32 a.m., and units remained vigilant on the scene into the morning hours.

King County Metro offered a warming bus for displaced residents, while Seattle City Light and Puget Sound Energy cut off utilities to the damaged buildings as a safety measure. The fire caused more than just structural damage, and several families lost their homes. The American Red Cross stepped in to help those affected.
