In a pattern all too familiar for the denizens of Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood, a band of burglars shattered the early morning calm with a break-in at a local business. According to a report by the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Police Department scrambled units to the 3500 block of North Southport Avenue shortly before 3:30 a.m. Thursday following reports of a burglary in progress.
The suspects, believed to be a group of four to five males, used crude force to shatter the glass storefront and gain entry. Once inside, they snatched proceeds and fled the largely sleeping neighborhood in a silver Audi. The exact amount of proceeds taken from the business remains undisclosed. As of this report, the Chicago Police had not taken anyone into custody and the matter remained in the hands of Area Three Detectives.
An additional account by CBS News Chicago corroborates these events. Confirming the details of the incident, the outlet stated that "four to five men used an unknown object to break through a glass door" of the unoccupied business, thereafter absconding with stolen goods.
The aforementioned vehicle, presumably a getaway car, has garnered particular attention as detectives investigate the case.
With the incident under active investigation, officials urge anyone with information to come forward.
